Forget
diets. they don't work
|
 |
Prolonged food
intake of less than 800 calories per day can affect the cardiac muscles
and can lead to sudden death
;
Note:
In the United States between July 1977 and January 1978,
fifty-eigth people died suddenly after a 500-calorie-per-day liquid
protein diet. Of these people,sixteen women and one man had complete
medical records that indicated that they had no reason to die
They had been taking vitamin and mineral supplements and had started
eating solid foods after the liquid protein diet period,( The
remaining forty-two people had regular medical problems in addition to
beeing overweight);
|
 |
While strict
low-calorie diets are not always fatal, they certainly do not promote
women's overall health;
Note:
Doctor Van Itallie, a well-known researcher in the field of obesity
at New York's Columbia University, reports that the most frequent
symptoms among strict dieters are fatigue, nausea, diarrhea,
constipation, dizziness, intolerance to cold, dry skin, hair loss,
muscle cramps, loss of libido, euphoria, insomnia, anxiety,
irritability, and depression.
|
 |
The outcome is not
any rosier; most of the time, the weight lost is regained;+
|
 |
Diets which are less
severe causes less distress, but they do not garanty success since 95
per cent of dieters cannot maintain their new weight. Whenever they end
a new diet, they also risk adding a few centimeters to their waistline...;
Note:
Docteur Bronwell, of the Universitye of Pennsylvania's Faculty of
Medecine, explains the yo-yo weight phenomenon by way of his
experiments with rats. When he redesigned the rats' meals by
alternating high- and low-calories diets, they gained and lost
weight, but the rate of gain and loss varied with each new diet. With the first diet, the rats lost weight in 21 days and regained it after
46 days. With the second diet, the rats lost the same amount of weight
in 46 days but had regained it all in just 14 days !!! |
 |
Weight loss
becomes that much more difficult with weight being regained much faster.
Unfortunetely, this yo-yo phenomenon is not restricted to rats. Humans
share the same vulnerability;
Note:
The metabolism, our calorie transformer, adapts quite quickly to a
reduction in calories. After just a few weeks, it becomes accustomed
to burning fewer calories while keeping the body going at the same
pace.This new pace will be maintained for a few months after the diet ends. For example the woman who loses weight by eating 1,200
calories per day will get her body accustomed to functioning on those
1,200 calories.menu.When she goes back to her regular 1,700-calorie
menu, however, she will gradually regain the weght lost because her
metabolism will not have resumed its pre-diet combustion rate. |
 |
The research is
unanimous: any reduction in calories can slow down the speed of calorie
transformation by up to 50 per cent, so that a return to a more liberal
diet will inevitably be accompanied bt weight gain. The greater the
difference between the diet and the individual's regular menu, the faster the weight will be regained.

Go for a more gentle approach
