Some of the startling Canadian
statistics revealed in this document:

14% of women are obese;
|
 |
85% of women with eating disorders
are adolescents who are still growing and whose illness often persists
into adulthood;

 |
37% of deaths in women are due to
heart disease;
|
 |
80% of those affected by osteoporosis
are women;
|
 |
3-5% of young women (18-44 year) have
iron deficient anaemia;
|
 |
40% of women of childbearing age
experience sufficient Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) symptoms to affect their
daily lives.

While an optional diet is
thought to contribute to improved health and well-beeing, recent
nutrition surveys show that many Canadian women are not meeting the

American Dietetic Association (ADA) a well-planned vegetarian diet can
be a healthy alternative to standard meat-based eating styles for all
age groups: |
